Weather Map Symbols. On a weather map, a stationary front is usually drawn using alternating cold front and warm front symbols. In that class, we did a lot of hands-on work plotting weather maps, which was something I really enjoyed.
Features are shown as points, lines, or areas, depending on their size and extent. Weather symbols are graphical representations of a range of atmospheric conditions commonly used during meteorological forecasts to display current and predict future weather conditions. These maps used to be paper maps, but today they are digital.
Actually, looking at data on weather maps and figuring out what it means is STILL one of my favorite parts of my job today!. colors and symbols all over the map at each of the reporting stations.
Maps using isotherms show temperature gradients, which can help locate.
A blue line with points indicating the direction of movement. Generally cold fronts move west to east across the USA. It is commonly used in conjunction with a synoptic weather map but can be displayed separately as well.
